Concept of IP address: Types of IP address

"Prayer's man's greatest power."

Hello, again my dear readers, all of us have discussed this means "IP" also known as Internet Protocol. Let us know this subject in some depth today. You may have already read previous posts related to this subject, if yes then continue but if you have not read that post then you should read it first.

What is Internet Protocol?

The Internet Protocol (IP) is the principal communications protocol in the Internet protocol suite for relaying datagrams across network boundaries. Its routing function enables internetworking and essentially establishes the Internet.IP has the task of delivering packets from the source host to the destination host solely based on the IP addresses in the packet headers. For this purpose, IP defines packet structures that encapsulate the data to be delivered. It also defines addressing methods that are used to label the datagram with source and destination information.

Types of IP address:

There are four types of IP address:
  1. Private IP
  2. Public IP
  3. Dynamic IP
  4. Static IP

Private IP address :

In IP networking a private network is a computer network that uses private IP address space. Both the IPv4 and the IPv6 specifications define private IP address ranges. These addresses are commonly used for local area networks in residential, office, and enterprises. A private network is a non-internet-facing IP address on an internal network. Private IP addresses are provided by network devices, such as routers, using network address translation (NAT).

Public IP address :

a public IP address that can be accessed over the Internet.  a public IP address is an IP address that used to access the internet. public IP addresses cannot be routed on the internet, unlike private IP addresses. Like postal addresses to deliver postal mail to your home, public IP address the globally unique IP address assigned to a computing device. Your public IP address can be found on the What is my IP Address page.

Dynamic IP address:

A dynamic IP address is an IP address that's automatically assigned to each connection of a network, like your smartphone, desktop PC, wireless tablet... whatever.

This automatic assignment of IP addresses is done by what's called a DHCP server A DHCP server assigned IP address is called dynamic because it will often be different on future connections to the network.

The "opposite" of a dynamic IP address is called a static IP address (one that was configured manually).

Static IP address:

A static IP address is an IP address that was manually configured for a device, versus one that was assigned via a DHCP server. It's called static because it doesn't change. It's the exact opposite of a dynamic IP address, which changes. Routers, phones, tablets, desktops, laptops, and any other device that can use an IP address can be configured to have a static IP address. This might be done through the device giving out IP addresses (like the router) or by manually typing the IP address into the device voice the device itself.
Static IP addresses are also sometimes referred to as fixed IP address dedicated IP addresses.

Parts of IP address:

The IP address consists of two parts. One identifying the network and the other identifying the node or host. The address class determines which part belongs to the network address and which part belongs to the node address. Each network running TCP / IP must have a unique network number, and each machine must have a unique IP address on it. It is important to understand how an IP address is created before registering its network and obtaining its network number.

The IP address is a 32-bit number that uniquely identifies a network interface on a machine. An IP address is usually written in decimal digits, formatted as four 8-bit fields separated by periods. Each 8-bit field represents one byte of IP address. This form of representing the bytes of an IP address is often referred to as the dotted-decimal format. And as we talked about earlier, IP addresses are further classified into two parts: the network part and the host part. Refers to the component part of a specific IP address, 129.144.50.56.

Network Part:

The network part in the IP address specifies the unique number assigned to you. It also identifies the class of the network. As shown in the image, part of the network takes two bytes of IP address.

Host Part:

This is the part of the IP address that you assign to each host. This uniquely identifies this machine on your network. Note that for each host on your network, the network portion of the address will be the same.

What is the Subnet Number?

A subnetwork or subnet is a logical subdivision of an IP network. The practice of dividing a network into two or more networks is called subnetting. If you choose to divide your network into subnets, you must specify a subnet number for the subnet. You can maximize the efficiency of the IP address space by using a few bits from the host number part of the IP address as the network identifier. When used as a network identifier, the specified part of the address becomes a subnet number. You create a subnet number using a netmask, which is a bitmask that selects the network and subnet portions of an IP address. But don't worry mate this process is optional.

Subnet or Subnetwork is a network within a network. The subnet makes the network more efficient. Through subnetting, network traffic can travel short distances without having to go through unnecessary routers to reach its destination. So it is a better option to increase your work capacity.
